KENTA pumps the brakes on his reported match with CM Punk.
In recent weeks, the NJPW star has publicly teased his interest in a match with Punk. Fightful Select reported that KENTA had been discussed as a potential opponent for Punk at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. KENTA then stated that AEW CEO Tony Khan would need to pay him to make the match happen. In another tweet, he wrote that he was mad that the match was planned without his permission.
KENTA has clearly expressed his desire for the bag, but CM Punk’s return to AEW came and went without an appearance by the NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion.
In a tweet after the June 17 episode of AEW Collision went off the air, KENTA simply wrote that a match between him and Punk would never happen.
Update: It appears that the match isn’t happening, as Fightful is now reporting plans for the match are off.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
