KiLynn King Opens Up About Her Emotions Heading Into Her Match With Trinity Fatu

KiLynn King knows that she can handle whatever life throws at her.

After Trinity made her official debut for IMPACT Wrestling, KiLynn King was named as her first opponent. Up until that point, Trinity hadn’t wrestled in nearly a year, which made this match all the more important. During a recent appearance on Wilde On, King detailed her emotions heading into the match, and the positive reaction she and Trinity received afterward.

While King was undoubtedly grateful for the opportunity, she admitted that she wasn’t in the best headspace in the weeks leading up to their encounter. “I’ve been going through a lot of personal stuff, and kind of between the personal stuff, I wasn’t giving my all to some of my wrestling matches. I felt like I was half in, half out,” she said. “I felt like I was kind of out of my body a little bit. And so, a lot of the matches that I had, I just felt like I wasn’t there. I did it, ‘Oh, another match.'”

Upon learning that she’d be wrestling Trinity, King did her best to push her personal worries to the side. Luckily for King, those doubts soon subsided.

“When I got told that I was in that match [with Trinity], I knew how important it was. So, I kind of forced my soul to come back into my body that day. And I was like, ‘We need to get our sh*t together. Okay, this is important. This is a big deal. They trust you to have this match with her. Don’t mess this up.’ There was just that fear in my body all day, ‘Am I going to step up? Am I going to do okay for her?’ And then like the moment I walked backstage and I saw everybody’s faces, I knew — even before that, like in the ring, the moment we started, I felt that energy and I was like, ‘This is going to be a good one.'”

“And then I got backstage, and I saw like Lance [Storm]’s face and Scott [D’Amore]’s face. And I was just like, ‘I did what I was supposed to do, and I still can do this’. No matter what life has thrown at me, I can handle it. I still don’t think I’m 100% okay, but it was definitely something that reminded me that no matter how hard it gets, my passion for this is strong enough that it’s not going to affect me. I think that sometimes we’re worried that life is going to be stronger than the passion, and it’s going to affect to the point where we just can’t do it anymore, and so that was a nice moment to be like, ‘I don’t care what you throw at me. This is what I’m meant to do.'”

Reflecting back on her career, King noted that she’s competed in a number of “big stake” matches. Facing Trinity was on a whole other level though. “I’ve been blessed with a lot of big stake matches, but that was a big deal, because people have been waiting for a really long time to see where Trinity was going to go, what she was going to do, how she was going to fare on her first match back. And so, I never let it on on that day because I was like professional,” King said. “But in my head, I’m like, ‘Can I do this?’ Just the notion that it wasn’t just me that felt good about it. I walked backstage and I could see their faces. [sighs of relief].”

Trinity (fka WWE's Naomi) Says The Glow Is Here To Stay, Reflects On Total Divas

WrestleZone recently spoke with Trinity, who reflected on her work as Naomi in WWE, and also had high praise for the match with King.

Trinity called King a great first opponent in IMPACT Wrestling and hopes it’s not the last time they meet inside the squared circle.

“KiLynn was such a beast, such a great first opponent and I would love to wrestle her again somewhere down the road. It was just such a natural chemistry with her. She was just great. I don’t feel like that debut could’ve gone any better, having my friends there, having so much support there. It was awesome.”
