Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada have a long and storied history with each other, and during the May 31 episode of AEW Dynamite, the New Japan Pro-Wrestling star was referenced in the ring.
Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita discussed betraying Kenny Omega and The Elite. “The Invisible Hand” praised Takeshita as the best athlete he’s ever met, and he stated that Konosuke was better than Antonio Inoki, Keiji Muto, and Kazuchika Okada. Callis also said that “of course” Takeshita was also better than Omega, before Takeshita took the microphone and said he would destroy the Elite and Kenny Omega.
The comments come just a few weeks ahead of the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, which is set to take place on June 25, 2023. While it’s unclear who will show up for the event, Okada and Omega have a long history with each other, so the fact that the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion was referenced on AEW TV certainly generated some buzz.
Okada competed at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022; there, he unsuccessfully challenged Jay White for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in a four-way match.
