AJ Styles is looking forward to WWE Night of Champions, where he’ll have the chance to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Styles and Seth Rollins won the SmackDown and RAW sides of the tournament to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The two stars will clash in the tournament finals at WWE Night of Champions.
Speaking on the Mark Andrews: My Love Letter to Wrestling podcast, Styles shared his thoughts ahead of his match with Rollins.
“Listen, Seth Rollins is no slouch. The guy’s on top of his game right now,” Styles said. “It’s gonna be 175 degrees in Jeddah. It’s gonna fun, it’s gonna be entertaining. There’s some worries that I’ll always have about myself, but I’m excited about the match. A lot of people have been calling it a secondary title, and I would love to disagree with them, but how can I when Roman holds the RAW and the SmackDown championships, so we made a new one so that he can’t have it yet.
“I’ll give you that, but the key to this World Heavyweight Championship is that it’s gonna be the workhorse championship. That’s what I believe that this is gonna be. I’ve been that guy, Seth has been that guy, so you’re not gonna go wrong either way.”
Styles went on to discuss a potential match with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Reigns and noted that the latter’s schedule will come back to bite him, as the “workhorse champion” will be primed and ready for a showdown, whereas Reigns might be comparably rusty.
“When Roman wants to step up and challenge for that workhorse championship, we’ll see what becomes secondary then because I believe that the guy who’s in the ring, there’s no ring rust, you’re in there, you’re doing it, you’re working on all cylinders,” Styles said. “This time that Roman’s taken where he’s not on every show, that’s gonna hurt him in the long run because we’re gonna be polished and ready for the next fight.
