Darby Allin wants to share the ring with Sting whenever his final match takes place.
ET Canada’s Shakiel Mahjouri recently spoke with Darby Allin, who was asked what role he wants to play in Sting’s retirement match. Allin said he doesn’t see any benefit to facing Sting as an adversary and wants a match where they team together.
“I want to be a tag team. That’s what I want to do. I want to be a tag team. I don’t think it will prove anything if we wrestle each other. I think proving something is how we were a solid team from the start to the end. I always tell people, the most important part of the story is the end. The beginning, the middle, but the end is the most important, and there’s nothing I won’t do to make sure that man’s career ends legendary just like the rest of it.
“I refuse for that guy’s career to end like, ‘Ah, it was alright.’ No, man. You’ve been seeing Sting jumping off balconies, going through tables. He’s got a chip on his shoulder. He’s got a bigger chip on his shoulder than some of the young guys on the roster. So people, step up your game and compete with him.”
Sting recently told Mike Piellucci of D Magazine that his current contract expires sometime in 2023, but he wouldn’t give a specific date. Tony Khan was also asked about Sting’s status, but it was something he said he was not ready to divulge.
“I talk to Sting a lot, and he is somebody who has been such a huge, huge boost to AEW since he arrived,” Khan told Baby Huey on In The Kliq. “Sting debuted a little over two years ago at the first Winter is Coming event in AEW. I catch up with him pretty frequently, on a regular basis, and I have to say, Stint’s motivation for pro wrestling is as high as it’s ever been. He loves what he’s doing. I do think he’s starting to think about what retirement will look like, but he’s also not slowing down at all in the present.
“I’m not ready to say exactly when Sting is gonna hang it up, but I do know every time we get to see Sting go out there in AEW, it’s very special. Any time he’s out there with the fans, it means a lot to them. I know for me as a wrestling fan, being in his presence, every time I see him, I get chills. I think it’s like that for a lot of people when they see ‘The Stinger’ in AEW.”
