Dave Bautista, formerly known as Batista in WWE, has been cast in a new movie.
Matt Grobar and Andreas Wiseman of Deadline report that Dave Bautista is set to star in The Killer’s Game, as Lionsgate has acquired the rights to the action comedy. JJ Perry is set to direct the film.
The movie is based on The Killer’s Game, a novel by Jay Bonansinga, and the report notes that the film centers around “veteran assassin Joe Flood (Bautista), who is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and authorizes a kill on himself to avoid the pain that is destined to follow. After ordering the kill, he finds out that he was misdiagnosed and must then fend off the army of former colleagues trying to kill him.”
Rand Ravich and Simon Kinberg, who previously worked on the X-Men series, wrote the movie, and James Coyne handled recent rewrites. Mad Chance’s Andrew Lazar will produce “The Killer’s Game” alongside Steve Richards for Endurance Media. Kia Jam is also attached as a producer. Bautista and Jonathan Meisner will executive produce the movie for Dogbone Entertainment, as will Scott Lambert. Jake Katofsky and Vanessa Humphrey will serve as co-producers.
Bautista, a former WWE Champion, recently starred in Knock at the Cabin and Glass Onion. His latest major movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is currently in theaters, and he will reprise his role as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen in Dune: Part Two.
