In a surprise reveal, it seems that Dwayne Johnson is set to return to his role in the Fast and Furious franchise, after appearing in a post-credits scene in the upcoming Fast X.
According to a report from TheWrap, Johnson briefly appears in Fast X — which is set to release on Friday, May 19, 2023 — in a post-credits sequence. It’s unclear exactly what Johnson’s character, Luke Hobbes, does, but he does seem to be back, potentially signaling the end of a big feud between Johnson and Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel.
Diesel and Johnson have had a well-documented and famous feud with each other over the past couple of years. Shortly after appearing in Fast Five, Johnson and Diesel saw their relationship bubble over into the public. During production of the Fast & Furious franchise’s eighth film, The Fate of the Furious, Johnson eventually took to Instagram to share a now-infamous post, in which he not so subtly called out Diesel, referring to him as a “candy ass.”
Since then, the two have commented about on another back and forth in the media, with Diesel taking to Instagram to publicly ask Johnson to appear in Fast X. While Johnson said he wouldn’t appear in the film many times, it seems like something changed.
It’s unclear what the future holds for Johnson’s character, however. Johnson hasn’t appeared in a mainline Fast & Furious film since 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, and hasn’t been in a Fast & Furious film at all since the 2019 spin-off film Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
