Seth Rollins is one win away from becoming the first new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, as he took down Finn Bálor on the May 8 episode of WWE RAW to advance to the tournament finals.
The May 8 episode of WWE RAW featured the red brand’s side of the tournament. First, Rollins defeated Damian Priest and Shinsuke Nakamura to advance to the main event. Later in the show, Balor pinned The Miz in a Triple Threat Match that also involved Cody Rhodes to punch his ticket to the semi-finals.
Years after the duo faced each other in the match to determine the inaugural Universal Champion at WWE SummerSlam 2016, Rollins and Balor met again on WWE RAW in the semi-finals of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. Rollins ultimately won the hard-fought bout; in the end, he hit an inverted Stomp and followed that up with another Stomp for the victory.
Moving forward, Rollins will face the winner of the SmackDown side of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament at WWE Night of Champions to determine the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
