A new NXT Women’s Champion will be crowned at NXT Battleground.
On the May 2 episode of WWE NXT, NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell came to the ring. She was walking on crutches, as she suffered an apparent injury during her title match on the “Spring Breakin'” special episode of NXT on April 25. Hartwell was drafted to WWE RAW during the WWE Draft, leaving the status of the title unclear.
On Tuesday, Hartwell announced that she had suffered a high ankle sprain, though she went on to finish the match. As for her move to WWE RAW, Hartwell announced that a tournament to crown a new champion would be held at NXT Battleground.
When Hartwell left the ring, she reunited with her InDex partner, Dexter Lumis, who carried her to the back. Tiffany Stratton, Cora Jade, and other stars came out, and they all brawled to close the show.
