Will Ospreay: Chris Jericho Encouraged Me To Tone Down My Ring Style

Will Ospreay recalls some important advice he got from Chris Jericho.

Ospreay had dealt with injuries over the years, and he has noted that he wasn’t sure how long his next run in wrestling would last due to the toll his intense in-ring style has taken on his body.

Speaking with Christopher Walker of DAZN, Ospreay recalled how, back in 2018, Chris Jericho told him he needed to stop because otherwise he would hurt himself. He noted that he only listened starting in 2020, as he started toning everything down.

“I remember having a phone call with [Chris] Jericho about this,” said Ospreay. “He called me in 2018 after I done a DDT off the apron to the floor against Kushida and he said, ‘You need to stop doing this because you’re going to hurt yourself.’

“I only really listened about 2020 because that’s when I really started toning everything down. If you actually look what I do, I don’t do as many tricks as what I used to. “

Ospreay then stated that Jericho is one of his heroes, and he has evolved as a competitor. He called Jericho one of the greatest of all time and noted that he gives solid advice.

“All the greats have had to evolve, and Jericho is one of my heroes,” Ospreay said. “He’s actually one of the greatest of all time. A geezer you can genuinely talk to about this stuff and he gives you solid advice. He’s been able to do it and now it’s my turn to try and do it.”

Ospreay returned to the ring from a shoulder injury on April 22, and he will compete at NJPW Resurgence on May 21.
