Matt Hardy recalls the way Ric Flair pushed to take an even bigger bump during the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WWE WrestleMania 22.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the AEW star was asked to name dream matches with stipulations. After first pointing to a Hardy Compound Match with Terry Funk and a TLC bout against Randy Savage, Hardy stated that he would want to face Ric Flair in a Ladder Match. He then looked back on the time he suplexed Ric Flair off a ladder during the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania 22.
“Just because he’s so crazy, and he’s utterly crazy, in real life and in the ring, I would say a ladder match with ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair. He dug doing that [ladder match] with Adam [Edge], and that time we were in the Money in the Bank, he said, ‘I trust you with this. You’re the guy who created this match. ‘ He said, if anybody’s gonna superplex me off the top of this ladder, it’s gonna be you.’ That clip, I see it every so often, Ric was amazing with that.
“We had a point where he was going to be on a certain step, and I remember we got up there, we’re fighting, and I saw that he was on the step, and I was on the step that we talked about earlier. He was like, ‘No, higher, higher.’ He’s hitting me. ‘Higher, higher!’ He just wanted to go up and take a little bit of a bigger bump. He took a lot of pride in taking that big suplex off the ladder. It was just so cool that a guy that you grew up watching, who was one of your favorites and super motivational for you to become a pro wrestler, would trust you enough to be the only person in that match that [he would] allow you to do that to him. That was really cool.
Hardy recently teased that the end of his storyline with The Firm will be “bananas.” Check out his comments here.
