Mercedes Moné Loses IWGP Women’s Title, Set To Appear At NJPW Resurgence

Mercedes Moné has lost the gold, but her time with New Japan Pro-Wrestling isn’t over yet.

Moné defended the IWGP Women’s Championship against Mayu Iwatani at STARDOM All Star Grand Queendom on April 23, and the challenger emerged victorious. As a result, Moné’s reign has come to an end; she previously won the title by defeating KAIRI at NJPW Battle in the Valley on February 18.

After the bout, Moné commented on her loss. She made it clear that she’s determined to win the title back, and “The CEO” stated that her “next stop” will be in Long Beach on May 21, seemingly confirming that she will be at NJPW Resurgence.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that Moné has agreed to a contract extension with NJPW/STARDOM; he broke the news shortly before her title defense on April 23. Per Meltzer, it’s believed that Moné’s next match will be at an event in the United States. The report did not specify the terms of the extension.

Moné recently shot down the rumors that her contract was expiring. Check out her comments here.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
