Raven Clarifies His Health Status & In-Ring Future

Raven clears up recent concerns about his health.

In a recent interview PWMania, fellow ECW legend Tommy Dreamer stated that Raven’s health wasn’t in the best condition to compete in a wrestling ring now. Raven, however, has clarified the status of his health, noting that he is “fine.” In fact, the 58-year-old recently competed in a 40-man battle royal at MLW tapings earlier this month.

Also speaking with PWMania, Raven later emphasized he was in “good health” despite some lingering injuries from his 35-year wrestling career. “I’m just suffering injuries from my career,” he said. “You know, the shoulder replacement I probably needed for 10, 15 years. I haven’t had a lot of big injuries. But I’ve had a couple, I herniated three discs in my lower back.

“I had my left shoulder replaced in 2013 and it was so painful that I said that’s it I’m not getting the right one either replacing too but I’m like I’m not getting that until i absolutely have to and now I absolutely have to. Then I got to two knees replaced last year. And then I should be a perfectly healthy young man and or old young man. I still feel like I’m 28 inside. I’m 58 but I feel 28 and I probably have the organs of a 78-year-old.”

Raven also acknowledged the inherent risk of brain damage, especially through his work in ECW. There, the setting was a little more hardcore than most promotions at the time. With trend of chair shots, Raven was “sure” he’s sustained some brain damage, but not too an extensive degree. “Obviously, you can see I’m clear-headed,” he said.

Regarding his future in the ring, Raven revealed he might be out of action for a year due to an upcoming shoulder replacement. “Yeah, it’ll be probably a year because, I’m gonna get my shoulder replaced and let it heal, but I’ll be 59, 60 then, I’m not going to take any bumps. I never took any bumps before. Why should I start now?”
