Steve Maclin is the new IMPACT World Champion.
At IMPACT Rebellion, Steve Maclin battled KUSHIDA for the vacant IMPACT World Championship in the wake of Josh Alexander’s untimely triceps injury that was announced at the end of March.
Maclin controlled the pace to start, but KUSHIDA made a comeback with his technical work. Toward the end, Maclin hit his KIA finisher, however KUSHIDA impressively kicked out. KUSHIDA applied the Hoverboard Lock on a few occasions, but Maclin broke it up one more time with another KIA to secure the pinfall victory.
After, Maclin called out Scott D’Amore to hand him the title. During the exchange, Maclin struck D’Amore with the title, which prompted Nick Aldis to leave the announce desk. Aldis and Maclin had a staredown until Maclin retreated.
