WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther reflects on his victory at WWE WrestleMania 39 and questions whether the man who will beat him has already arrived in WWE.
At WWE WrestleMania 39, Gunther defeated Sheamus and Drew McIntyre in a hard-hitting Triple Threat Match to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. With the win, he ensured that his dominant reign, which started in June 2022, would continue.
Speaking with Ryan Satin for WWE on FOX following the match, Gunther commented on his win at WrestleMania 39.
“I feel great, to be honest. After a night like that, you’re full of adrenaline, so you have to wait to have it come down a little bit, and then you realize what you went through,” he said. “But right now, I feel great. After all those years of hard work and going through difficult situations, to arrive here and to be able to make a statement like I did today, it just feels rewarding.”
When asked whether he was nervous, as the show marked his first WrestleMania, “The Ring General” noted that he is confident in his skill and in his ability to handle high-pressure situations.
“No, I gotta say. I think at the end, I’m very confident in my skill, I’m very confident in my mind when it comes to those situations in the ring,” he said. “I try to treat it all the same, to be as effective as possible, more or less. I was able to enjoy it.”
The champion also gave his opponents credit and stated that they all left their heart and soul in the ring. Gunther was asked to describe what the future holds, and though he admitted he wasn’t sure, he expressed his doubt that the man who will beat him is already on the WWE roster.
“That we shall see. Tonight was my only focus,” Gunther said. “Let’s see what happens next week on SmackDown. I guess I’ll see who’s next in line, more or less. I’m fairly confident, looking into the future. I feel like… I’m not sure if the man that is gonna be able to beat me, if he arrived here already, so everybody better go out and find him.”
Fans will have to wait and see who will step up and challenge Gunther next.
