Triple H Talks Ad Revenue From WrestleMania 39, Why The Tag Match Was The Main Event

Triple H spoke to members of the media at the conclusion of WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 1 and among those things discussed included how much money they made from ad spots and why they made the decision to have the tag team title match close the show.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Turbo Tax were 2 companies heavily featured during portions of the show, and it appears that WWE fans will need to get used to this moving forward. Triple H indicated in the post-show press conference that WWE made over $22 million in advertising in just the first night. He said he would have more details at the conclusion of the second night. Cinnamon Toast Crunch had an emoji mascot ringside during the Rey Mysterio Vs. Dominik Mysterio match while Turbo Tax had an ad read directly before the main event match. Both had their companies prominently featured on LED banners around the stadium and ring during various matches.

As far as the main event match between The Usos and Sami Zayn/Kevin Owens, Triple H went on to talk about why that decision was made. There was some controversy whether this match or the WWE SmackDown Women’s Title match should have closed the show.

“It’s all about what is most impactful. As the storylines played out heading into WrestleMania, to me, it was the most emotionally and storyline driven match on the card. I felt like that needed to be in that spot. I’ve said this before when we’ve talked about, ‘Oh, you put the women in the main event.’ We didn’t put the women in the main event, that’s the spot. That’s the storyline that was driving things to put them in that role. It’s not about giving it to them because they’re women. Never once did it factor for me. People saying, ‘Tag team championships haven’t been in that spot. History making.’ I didn’t even know that, to be honest with you. Talent are talent, nothing else to it. Whatever storyline is resonating the most and has the most impact, that needs to be the story that’s told.” (Transcription credit to Jeremy Lambert of Fightful.)
