Jon Moxley is sick and tired of all the negative chatter on social media.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Jon Moxley was a recent guest on The Sessions with Renee Paquette to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about CM Punk‘s Instagram story last week, which painted Mox in a negative light heading into All Out 2022, the former three-time AEW World Champion had plenty to say.
“Nothing has unfolded. It’s f**king annoying just because somebody said some stupid shit on social media like that’s not news, but it is, and it ends up being a thing,” Jon Moxley said. “I don’t want to get dragged into this dumb shit. I could f**king unload on a lot of f**king people right now, and when I start getting dragged into this shit, it tempts me to do that, but I’m not gonna f**king sink to that level.
“I will say this; I’m just gonna give you like a tidbit of information from my point of view. The entire summer, I was not under contract. No contract, free agent. I was at SummerSlam weekend wrestling fucking Desperado and shit the day of SummerSlam. F**king suplexed him on a bunch of aluminum cans and shit cut in half; it was f**king dope.
“I could have walked into SummerSlam that night with the AEW f**king belt if I had been so inclined. Nobody knew that because I don’t put my shit out there in the world and let everybody know every f**king thing about my business. I was not under contract. The reason being, if you’re curious, because I got out of rehab, and my contract was coming up. They extended it for the time that I missed. Cool. I’m glad they did actually because I didn’t want to feel like I owed them anything.”
Moxley says AEW extended his original contract for the time missed, but he continued to have discussions about his status. Moxley says logic would tell him not to go back to avoid falling into the same habits, and he was reluctant to rush back and sign a long-term deal.
“Because what if shit started to go off the rails again? Pretty quickly, I was like man, actually being sober is awesome. This is fantastic. I’m having so much fun. I was working with my friends, Blackpool Combat Club me and Bryan [Danielson] and shit. F**king [William] Regal, like this is great. And they’re talking to me about signing a new thing, and I was like, if everything just stays exactly as it is right now. I’ll be here forever.
“You can pay me in cash in an envelope at the end of the night. I don’t give a f**k. I can’t tell you what I’m going to feel like in six months, especially not in three years or five years. And once I make a commitment, then I will push through injuries, and I will push myself too hard, and I will do all these things that add up, and it leads you down the road or whatever, you know what I mean? So I was not in a hurry to make any kind of grand commitments at first.
“That being said, during this time period, the night f**king what’s his dick talking about was in Minneapolis, was the night he came back and was hopping around on one foot bumping around Inner Circle or whatever after me [Chris] Jericho wrestled. It was a badass match, by the way. So we’re talking later about stuff. Now keep in mind at this time, this is my whole point; I basically don’t work there.
“For all intents and purposes. I don’t even work here. Tony [Khan] is not my boss. I don’t even have to be in this room. I don’t have to do shit. So even me being in this room and offering and agreeing to a storyline that puts you over at the pay-per-view, if anything, I’m bending over backwards for Tony and for this dude, and for the company and everybody because I didn’t have to. I didn’t have to do shit. If anything, I was bending over backwards. So that’s it. It’s not even controversial. I’m just telling you.”
When asked about how much pressure he feels when things go down that aren’t planned, and they have to turn to him, Moxley went on to talk about always being ready to seize these kinds of opportunities.
“I mean, that’s what a big part of my career has been. You gotta be ready to seize opportunities when they arise,” Jon Moxley said. “I think the last time we did this was right before Forbidden Door. I got slotted in to wrestle [Hiroshi] Tanahashi, which turned out amazing. So that was just an opportunity. Gotta be ready for that stuff. So for young wrestlers listening, you never know what’s around the corner. So you know, be ready at all times. I’ve never been like the plan to build everything around me.
“The only time when it was kind of like that the pandemic happened, and the whole world shut down. That’s the only time that ever happened. Does it get like annoying sometimes to be like, if you just f**king gone with me in the first place like we wouldn’t be f**king going through this again? It kind of does. But also, I don’t complain. I see the good in everything, and I’m just having so much f**king fun. I mean, life is so f**king good right now. I don’t want any negative bullshit.”
Moxley went on to admit that as an observer, he’s never seen so much “bullshit drama” in one place as he’s seen in All Elite Wrestling. But the Blackpool Combat Club member makes it clear that a vast majority of people there aren’t causing any trouble.
“I will say this, and I hate to say — I don’t think I’ve ever said anything even remotely negative about AEW,” Jon Moxley said. “But I will say this as an observer. I spent eight years on the indies. A couple of years in WWE developmental. Spent like eight years in WWE. I have never seen so much bullshit drama in one place in my entire f**king life.
“I hate to say that, but it’s like, I don’t know if it’s because of the age of social media. Shit gets like blown out of proportion. Like one person types one stupid f**king drunk tweet, and all of a sudden, that’s all anybody wants to talk about.
“We’re sitting up here, doing a podcast. You know what we’re not talking about? We’re not talking about the f**king stellar match Vikingo and Kenny Omega just had. All the cool stuff going on in AEW. Cool shows are happening. We’re not talking about this great pay-per-view we just had. We’re not talking about any of that; we’re talking about some bullshit.
“Like, let me be clear, the vast majority of people there don’t cause any f**king trouble. But they’re getting sucked down into the shit like everybody else, into the muck. There are plenty of people who just want to get better and perform and f**king just do this job, man. It’s the best job in the world.”
