Freddie Prinze Jr. Hopes To Start Wrestling-Related Project In The Next Year

Freddie Prinze Jr. has a wrestling-related project that he wants to make a reality.

During an interview with The Movie Dweeb, Freddie Prinze Jr. said he has a wrestling-related project he would like to work on in the near future. The Movie Dweeb approached the topic by asking what needs to happen to get Prinze involved with a pro-wrestling-related movie.

“Well [laughs] I’ve written something in the wrestling space that I will eventually do. Hopefully within the next year. I hope,” Prinze explained. “But the wrestling business is crazy and I’m still learning about it. It’s much different than Hollywood. And Hollywood producers don’t really get it.

“The changes they want to make are usually horrible because they don’t understand wrestling or worse, they don’t respect it as an art form,” he added, “so then the notes are just terrible. You’ve got to walk this fine line or you’ve got to say I’m doing it without Hollywood. I’m going to create the promotion, find the TV deal and do my thing. But I’m definitely involved in it and heavily invested. I’ve written something, it’s been well-received, I just didn’t want to make the changes that they wanted.”

Prinze said he doesn’t want to say too much about the project now, noting that he’d rather share details once a contract is signed. Without going into further detail, he said that he and another party “politely parted ways without anybody getting mad at anybody” and still has plans to see the unnamed project through.

“I know there’s wrestling fans out there that want to know everything, but I can’t give you everything where I’ve got nothing left. It’s tricky,” he said. “I want to give people something, but that’s my baby. I can’t do it.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. previously announced plans to start his own wrestling promotion. Prinze took a hiatus from live-action roles but continued to do voice acting roles, including his role as Kanan Jarrus in the Star Wars universe. Prinze returned to the screen in 2022 to star in Netflix’s Christmas With You, a film he took to help finance his wrestling promotion.

During an October episode of his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, Prinze said he had a finished draft and a script in place, and two producers he could potentially work with on the project. The same episode also featured Prinze confirming that he made an offer to Bray Wyatt (Windham Rotunda) to join the project. Wyatt ultimately returned to WWE that same month.
