MLW and wXw will collaborate for MLW Battle Riot V.
Major League Wrestling announced that Shingehiro Irie will put the wXw Unified World Championship on the line at MLW Battle Riot V on April 8, as Calvin Tankman will challenge for the gold. This match will mark the first time the wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship is defended in an MLW ring.
In the official announcement, wxw CEO Felix Kohlenberg commented on the news and expressed the company’s excitement.
“Since 2018 Shigehiro Irie kept touring with us at wXw in Germany,” said Kohlenberg. “On March 12th he won the annual 16 Carat Gold Tournament and with that is the wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion. He only became the second Japanese wrestler to win the wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship after Daisuke Sekimoto. Just like Sekimoto 12 years prior Irie is looking for challengers from all over the world. We are excited about the opportunity to host a wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship Match at MLW Battle Riot.”
Likewise, MLW founder Court Bauer commented and stated that MLW was thrilled to build a bridge to wXw through the match.
“wXw is Germany’s preeminent promotion and we are delighted to build this bridge for fans, wrestlers and the sport as we embark on this inter-promotional collaboration,” said Bauer.
Previously, wXw’s Avalanche” Robert Dreissker competed in the 2019 Battle Riot, and Alex Kane competed for wXw in 2022.
As previously announced, Alex Hammerstone will defend the MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Real1 at MLW Battle Riot V.
