AEW star Matt Hardy teases that his current storyline is about to pop off in a big way.
In recent months, Hardy and Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Mar Quen) have been involved in a program with Ethan Page and Stokely Hathaway of The Firm. The two sides initially clashed as Hathaway and Page abused their power over the Hardy Party, but Matt and Ethan have been getting along recently, and they have formed a successful six-man team with Kassidy.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the veteran reflected on the journey he has been on with the storyline. He first noted that he had been in limbo before it started, as he and Jeff Hardy were set to have a Hardy Boys run until Jeff got arrested and suspended in June 2022. Matt then stated that he wanted to make the most of his opportunity with The Firm once the opportunity came up.
“I found myself in a scenario after Jeff had his incident where I was just kind of floating along,” he said. “Obviously we had plans for throughout the summer and into the fall to do Hardy Boyz stuff. Once that didn’t happen, I was just kind of in limbo for a while. Then this opportunity came up to work with Ethan some, and I said, ‘Okay, let’s give it a shot.’ Once again, I go into the mentality of, ‘Let’s make this as good as we can possibly make it.”
Matt continued by describing how everyone involved has worked hard to enhance the storyline. He shared his belief that they somewhat forced AEW’s hand by making it so engaging that the company had to put them back on TV, rather than limiting the group to Dark and Dark: Elevation. Hardy then stated that he thinks the next few weeks of the storyline are going to produce amazing TV.
“We have done so much on our own to really create input, create ideas, create content that we can do that really enhances The Firm and our story of The Firm and the Hardy Party, and us kind of coming together and syncing together as one,” Matt said. “I love the fact that we were both open to going out and stuff on Elevation or Dark, or whatever it could be. We said we want an opportunity to do this together because we really think we have a special package here.
“Then it did become so good that it kind of forced their hand to put us back on TV. I think the next few weeks are gonna be some pretty amazing TV, I think, and I really like where we’re at. It’s one of those things where I think this is going to really pop off in the big scheme of things. There’s a lot of people that are saying low key, this has been going on for six months, it’s one of the most entertaining stories and concepts on the show, and I really think we’re going to solidify that in the next few weeks.”
Fans will have to wait and see how the storyline unfolds from here on out.
