Kenny Omega Equates AEW’s Return To Winnipeg To The High School Reunion He Never Had

Needless to say, Kenny Omega is doing a lot better on the financial side of things in professional wrestling nowadays.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Kenny Omega recently sat down with Taylor Allen of the Winnipeg Free Press to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his early days of wrestling in Winnipeg, Omega spoke about how little money he earned per match at the time.

“I was elated, unbelievably excited to look in my piggy bank after a month’s worth of (wrestling), which at that time was two shows a week, and a lot of those were ladder matches, hardcore matches, and all sorts of things, and see that I had twenty dollars… It didn’t even work out to five dollars a match,” Kenny Omega said with a laugh.

When asked about his Winnipeg homecoming tonight with All Elite Wrestling, Omega said he had hoped when the company started that they could turn it into an international wrestling product and do live shows all over the world.

“When AEW became a thing, we always thought, ‘Boy, wouldn’t it be cool if this really was an international wrestling product.’ And not only international by how you consume it via television or internet, but I really wanted to do live shows all around the world,” Kenny Omega said. “For one of our first international shows, and one of our first Canadian shows, to be in my hometown is a really cool thing, and I’m sure Chris has a very similar feeling towards it.”

While Omega admits that Jericho has done this homecoming plenty while working for WWE, he doesn’t believe moments like this lose their specialness.

“He’s done it many times before I’m sure for WWE and such, but I don’t think it loses it’s specialness,” Kenny Omega said. “And I think when AEW comes back a second, third, fourth time or what have you, that I’ll probably have that same indescribable feeling that I have right now. It’ll probably be the high school reunion that I never had.”
