The Undertaker: Vince McMahon Wanted Vladimir Kozlov To End The Streak

In 2014, the wrestling world let out a collective series of jaw drops when Brock Lesnar broke The Undertaker‘s undefeated WrestleMania streak. But as it turns out, Vince McMahon had laid out a few alternative options to claim the honor.

Recently speaking with Ariel Helwani for BT Sport, The Undertaker explained that the decision to break his illustrious streak wasn’t finalized until the day of WrestleMania 30. Well before Brock Lesnar donned the huge honor, though, CEO Vince McMahon had proposed some different superstars to end The Streak.

“By the time that we got to WrestleMania, we pretty much knew what was going to go down. But there were a few people, I guess, that [Vince McMahon] wanted to break the streak,” The Undertaker explained. “[Vladimir] Kozlov, he wanted him. It was early on, and I think he wanted Edge to go over, Edge refused. He said, ‘No. I can’t do it.’ That’s how much he respected the streak and me and what he thought that streak meant to the business. I didn’t know that it that time, I didn’t know that until years after. That just says a lot about him, the human being he is.”

The Undertaker believes Edge had said no because he “grasped how important the streak had become.” When asked if Brock should have also declined, “The Deadman” admitted he was unsure.

“It’s hard to say,” he said. “I don’t think Brock needed it, I think Brock was a major attraction. He was a star, and he was made. I don’t know that it enhanced him anymore. It would have been great for Roman if Brock hadn’t already done it. It would have been a huge thing for Roman. I don’t know that it meant the same to Brock as it would have meant to Roman or anybody else who would have done it because Brock had already been there. Brock had already gone off to UFC. He already had all these major accomplishments. I don’t think it elevated his star, it could have helped somebody else.”
