It’s been a rough 2023 for Kofi Kingston in WWE thus far.
The New Day member has only had one win on WWE SmackDown so far this year, and for a second year in a row, their Royal Rumble elimination spot didn’t go according to plan. Now an ankle injury will likely sideline him from competing at WrestleMania 39.
According to F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer (via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter), Kofi Kingston suffered an ankle injury while trying to catch Drew McIntyre on a dive last week on SmackDown.
The belief is that Kingston will be out for five weeks, but luckily he won’t require surgery. If he ends up needing surgery, he could be out for a lengthy period of time.
Xavier Woods will take Kofi Kingston’s spot in the five-way match tonight on SmackDown to determine a challenger for Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39.
It’s currently unknown if Kofi Kingston will be on WWE programming to be in Xavier Woods’ corner while out with the injury.
