Sami Zayn has always been a fan-favorite WWE superstar, but recently, Zayn has seen an even bigger rise in popularity thanks to his ongoing storyline with Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. According to Eric Bischoff, Zayn’s rise reminds him of another former legend.
In a recent interview with Sportskeeda’s WrestleBinge, Bischoff compared Zayn’s rise to fame to Diamond Dallas Page’s rise in the days of WCW.
“There are some parallels there,” Bischoff said. “[DDP] was kind of in the middle of the roster, right, and he was pretty good, but once [DDP] made that transition, once he turned down the NWO and started working with Randy Savage and so many other top names, he just blew out of the pack. He didn’t slowly grow his way to the top of the roster; he just blew the doors off.”
Bischoff went on to say that he feels similarly to DDP about Zayn, specifically the fact that both characters quickly rose to fame, and took “ownership” of their characters.
“Sami has been around a long time,and he’s been very successful and he’s very talented and he’s very good,” said Bischoff. “But the way he has completely blown the doors off and taken ownership of that character and that role is very similar to what DDP did.”
Following Zayn’s defeat at the hands of Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber, he has vowed to dismantle The Bloodline, although it’s unclear what the future currently holds for the character.
