Finn Bálor’s Demon Balor persona was almost brought back for WWE’s Royal Rumble, according to a recent report.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the “Demon” was originally set to return for a match against Edge at the Royal Rumble premium live event. As reported by WrestlingNews.co late in 2022, WWE’s had plans to have a Hell in a Cell Match between Edge and Bálor at WWE Royal Rumble.
Sapp’s report noted that the match — which didn’t end up happening due to Edge’s filming schedule — was not only supposed to happen, but would have seen Bálor return to his “Demon” persona. Sapp cited sources who indicated that it didn’t feel like the “Demon” persona fit with the current storyline with Bálor and the Judgment Day, while some others thought the canceled match would have needed the extra buzz.
The iconic look for Bálor has only been used seven times in WWE, but was a staple for the superstar during his time in NXT. The last time he used the persona on the main roster was in a loss to Roman Reigns at WWE Extreme Rules 2021, and it hasn’t been seen since.
