Nikki Cross reflects on the evolution of her character in WWE and calls it a natural progression.
From her run in SAnitY to being Nikki ASH and reverting back to Nikki Cross, the fan-favorite star has had quite an on-screen journey in WWE. Now that she’s back as her previous Cross character, many fans are looking forward to seeing where she goes from here.
Speaking with Spencer Love of Love Wrestling, Cross discussed the evolution of her character and stated that it has been a natural progression.
“For me, it was a natural evolution. You had Nikki Cross in NXT, with Sanity. You had Nikki Cross have that journey in NXT, and she almost became this lovable bundle of chaos, which the fans got behind, coming up to RAW and teaming with Alexa. Struggling to fit in, and then fitting in with Alexa, and then the split with Alexa. Then teaming with Rhea after becoming Nikki A.S.H., and then for me, I think it’s been such a natural evolution. It’s been a natural journey. When you look at my career over the last seven years, it’s always been a very natural progression. So A.S.H., you had the superhero that tried to be good, she tried to be a superhero. She tried her best, and it just doesn’t work for her, so she reverts back to the girl that she knew six years ago in NXT. So for me, it’s all about character development. It’s all about that natural progression and evolution, so for me, nothing came out of the blue.
“Everything to me was organic because I understand Nikki Cross and I understand Nikki A.S.H. better than anyone else on this planet. So for me, everything made sense. She has been left alone, she has been abandoned. She has tried all these different things, and she got to the top of the mountain, and she won the RAW Women’s Championship, she won the tag team championships for a record-breaking time. Then it’s gone. So then how does that character come back from that? What happens to her in that journey back? I’m a big movie fan. I’m all about that character development. So for me it was very organic and it was a natural evolution for Nikki.”
