Kenny Omega Needed To Introduce A Different Version Of Himself When He Returned From Injury

Kenny Omega knew he couldn’t just do the same old song and dance.

The Swerve City Podcast recently welcomed Kenny Omega to the show, and the “Best Bout Machine” spoke about how he viewed his return from injury. Omega missed nine months due to having surgery to repair multiple injuries, finally making his return in August 2022. Omega said that he saw the Trios division as a chance to reinvent himself and feels like it all worked out in the end.

“The difficult part, and I think I feel like a lot of performers, especially athletes, will feel like if I do all these surgeries if I have to take all this time away. Hopefully, it’s gonna be for the better, and hopefully, I can recover to the best of my ability. And that I come back 100%,” he explained. “I wasn’t as naive. I kind of felt like, I need to introduce a new layer and be a different version of myself when I come back. And that’s when I’d heard about the Trios Tag belts, as I like, Okay. This is a chance for us to work in a division that could look very visibly different from all the other divisions. I don’t want it to look just like a tag match with the third guy. And I don’t want The Elite to just be the same old Elite.

“So, you know, things really worked out, and we were able to get [“Wayward Son”] by Kansas, which is like — I just feel like we came back with a whole new vibe,” Omega said. “And then the Tokyo Dome thing just kind of falling into my lap too where I was like, oh boy.”
