Report: Kenny Omega Could Possibly Have Time Added To AEW Contract Due To Absence For Injury

There are still many questions surrounding Kenny Omega‘s AEW contract status.

After his contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling expired in 2019, Kenny Omega signed a four-year deal with the then-upstart AEW that February. Four years have now passed and there’s been plenty of speculation regarding Omega’s status.

In an update, Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that numerous sources have claimed that Tony Khan has discussed adding time to Omega’s contract due to his injury hiatus from November 2021 to August 2022. Fightful confirmed that AEW does have that option, but it remains to be seen if it will be exercised. It’s also unclear if Omega is working without a contract currently.

Additionally, there has been chatter from WWE’s side as they feel they have a chance to land the 39-year-old. Omega reportedly still has a “positive relationship” with WWE after having discussions with Triple H in late 2018.

Fightful also noted that it is written into Omega’s contract that he has the freedom to work NJPW dates as long as it doesn’t conflict with AEW. Omega returned to NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January when he defeated Will Ospreay to win the IWGP United States Championship for a second time.

Omega is also in the midst of his second reign as AEW World Trios Champion alongside co-founders and AEW executive vice presidents The Young Bucks.
