Cody Rhodes: It Feels Like Triple H Expects Me To Hit A Home Run Every Time, I Want To Do That

When Cody Rhodes returned to WWE last year, he worked alongside Vince McMahon, but now he’s working with Triple H instead.

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes recently sat down with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about what it’s been like working with Triple H since returning to WWE at the Royal Rumble, Rhodes gave it an A-plus so far and said that Hunter expects him to hit a home run every time he goes out there.

“So far, A-plus. I hope this isn’t too divulgent; nothing has been forced. I’m not trying to force my ideas or a friendship. He’s not trying… everything he has said to me, or we’ve talked about has been very deliberate. I get the sense he’s expecting me to hit a home run every time. Okay. I have had great education, great experience. I want to go out there and do that every time. We’ve yet to really hit a road bump. They’re gonna come. We’re gonna fumble the ball; we’re gonna have these moments; they’re gonna come. But right now, it’s been a very good relationship because it’s not performative. It’s, you call the play, and I’m gonna go out there and try to do the damn thing.”

“I’ve really enjoyed that because I don’t there was necessarily bad blood, but that was a contentious thing on Wednesdays, in a way, for a while. If anything, I hope he would look at that and respect the hustle, respect what I was out there trying to do. What I was out there trying to do then was for everybody. As a selfish, egotistical wrestler, we all are, to a degree, that period of time was dedicated to the business and the sport.

“Matt Jackson and I used to talk about it, raising the pay floor, the wrestling economy. Man, I felt like we did. I felt like I did my part. So coming back is getting back in those shoes, and ‘Okay, what can I do?’ I was able to jump back on literally the first dream I had wrestling as an eight-year-old kid, just wanting to win a title that my dad never got. For my own reasons, to say, ‘Hey, I’m the one who got it,’ but also to say, ‘Hey, here it is.’”
