Jerry Lawler is reportedly recovering from surgery.
PWInsider first reported that Lawler was rushed to the hospital after he suffered a medical episode on February 6, but additional details were unclear.
In an update, Action News reported that the WWE Hall of Famer suffered a stroke, and he subsequently had surgery at a hospital in Florida, where he is now recovering.
Lawler is one of the most renowned legends in the wrestling world. He has had a lengthy in-ring career, and he has wrestled all over the world. Lawler has held more recognized titles than anyone else in wrestling history. He started working with WWE in 1992, and he memorably feuded with Brett Hart. Alongside Jim Ross, he was one of the voices of the Attitude Era, as the duo called countless moments together on commentary. Lawler has remained involved with WWE in recent years; he made a guest appearance on the January 23 episode of WWE Raw, which marked the show’s 30-year anniversary.
Speaking with Commercial Appeal, Dave Brown, one of Lawler’s longtime friends, noted that he’s optimistic Lawler will recover.
““Some of the initial reports were just horrible, so I feel much better than I did 18 hours ago when I felt like I got hit in the face with a shovel,” he said. “I was incredibly encouraged after I did a FaceTime. Jerry was alert. He talked to me. He could only say a couple words at a time, which is pretty normal. But (he) was able to move both legs and both arms. I feel very optimistic that he’s eventually going to recover.”
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, Lawler’s broadcast partner longtime broadcast partner, offered an update and noted that he spoke to Lawler. He noted that he could understand Lawler’s affected speech, and his prognosis is positive, but he needs thoughts and prayers.
I spoke very briefly with @JerryLawler tonight.
He’s obviously weak but I could understand his affected speech.
Jerry’s prognosis is positive but he needs all our thoughts and prayers. #LoveYaKing pic.twitter.com/5pkunLriHm— Jim Ross (@JRsBBQ) February 8, 2023
WrestleZone wishes Lawler well and will provide more information as it becomes available.
