Swerve Strickland: I Believe I’m One Of The Biggest Pieces On The Board, I Can Help Any Product Win

AEW star Swerve Strickland always has bigger goals for himself in and out of the world of professional wrestling.

Strickland was a recent guest on The Wrestling Perspective Podcast to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about what he thinks he needs to do in order to become AEW World Heavyweight Champion, Swerve stated he’s always trying to do more and he’s not afraid to tell his boss that he wants to do more.

“I’m always prepping and trying to get more. If this isn’t enough, then I do need to do more, whatever it’s going to take,” Strickland said. “Also, that’s not something that people tell you. ‘Oh, man, we’d put you up there as like one of the world champion guys, like a contender for the world title if you did this.’ It’s never that simple. It’s just something magic. You got to catch lightning in a bottle at the right time for you, and then it’s there. You know what I mean?

“So I’m always going to say that I need more. I’m always going to go into Tony [Khan]’s office and say, ‘Hey, I appreciate everything that’s happening, but I’m ready to get heated up again. Hey, we need more added to this. Hey, what can we do to get me here?’ I did the same thing with Triple H and Shawn Michaels. It’s not an ego thing. It’s a winning thing. I want to win, and I want to help this company win.”

Strickland went on to describe how he believes he’s one of the biggest pieces on the board that can help any product. He pointed to Chris Jericho’s comments that the ratings go up when he’s on TV and made it clear that his intention is to benefit everything around him.

“I truly feel like I’m one of the biggest pieces on the board that can help any product win. Jericho said it with my ratings. Every time I appear on television, I pop a rating because that’s how much I want to produce out there to win. I’m honored and proud of that. But I’m more proud that I can do that for the product. I feel like if people understand that your intention is not just for you but for everything around it, and the product and the story match itself, you’ll always be in positions to win.”
