John Cena has been cast in a new movie.
Anthony D’Alessandro and Rosy Cordero of Deadline report that Cena and Zac Efron will star in director Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky, a comedy that has been acquired by Prime Video. Jermaine Fowler, who previously starred in Sorry to Bother You, has also joined the cast for the film, which will begin production in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in February.
Farrelly has helmed several acclaimed fills, including Dumb and Dumber, Shallow Hal, Kingpin, Hall Pass, and There’s Something About Mary.
Some of the producers include Paul Currie (Hacksaw Ridge, Blacklight), Thorsten Schumacher (Crimes of the Future, All Quiet on the Western Front), and in association with John Jacobs (Ted, Blades of Glory).
Per Deadline, the film centers around three friends, who “invent a character to use to get out of tricky predicaments, but they have to hire an actor to portray their fictional friend when their significant others become suspicious.”
Cena commented on the news in a tweet, and he expressed his excitement.
Beyond excited to help bring these characters to life (both on and off screen) with an incredible cast, our director and producers and partners at @AmazonStudios @primevideo. #RickyStanicky is a best friend to all — can’t wait for you to meet him! https://t.co/DtLAsiwWQa
