Logan Paul discusses his viral spot in the Royal Rumble match.
Paul went down with a torn MCL he suffered during his match against Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WWE Crown Jewel. He returned at WWE Royal Rumble and quickly stole the show when he and Ricochet did a simultaneous springboard move where they collided in midair as they clotheslined each other.
Speaking on his IMPAULSIVE podcast, Paul discussed his return and noted that he recovered in time to compete.
“The Royal Rumble, my first Royal Rumble,” Paul said. “What a crazy event. I managed to recover my grade-three MCL tear in about three months, and I was fit enough to participate in this event yesterday.
Paul then highlighted the springboard spot with Ricochet and initially wondered whether it was even possible. He emphasized that he likes to do things that have never been done before. Paul then stated that he had an “amazing” time at WWE Royal Rumble.
“The move was, we both do what’s called a springboard, which is where you jump and put your foot on the top rope and use it as a trampoline bounce. I can’t believe this was possible. When this move was pitched to me, I was like, ‘Is that possible?’ Generally, when I have that reaction, it’s a good thing because if it is, it’s incredible. I don’t think it’s been done before. The wrestling purists will perhaps come down on for me for this one, but I don’t think it’s been done before, which is what I like to do. I like to chase those moments that are really fresh and innovative and create that social media buzz.
“So, midair, trampoline bounce off the top rope, and me and Ricochet clothesline the sh— out of each other at a thousand miles an hour. When we landed, because were also falling from, gotta be seven [or] eight feet, man, I crawled out of the ring. I had some time there to sit on the edge. I had some Prime, shout-out to that person. I was refueled, I got back in the ring and managed to finish. But wow this sport is hard, and it hurts, and it’s so much fun, and I love it. Yesterday was amazing.”
Given his previous injury, Paul noted that his girlfriend Nina Agdal was concerned after he hit his head upon impact when he and Ricochet collided. He recalled how other wrestlers told him to tuck his chin, and he didn’t. But Paul pointed out that it didn’t matter because he eliminated Seth Rollins from the Royal Rumble match.
“I told her in the room, ‘I just have to tuck my chin.’ Then every wrestler I passed on my way out was like, ‘Tuck your chin, buddy.’ She’s like, ‘This is a thing, and you knew it was a thing, and you didn’t do it? You moron.’ Look, I’m learning as I go. It’s hard. I’ll be honest, none of it matters because I eliminated Seth Rollins. Got you, you son of a bitch [laughs].”
