Chris Jericho was instrumental in convincing Big Bill to change his wrestling gear after his WWE release in 2018.
Big Bill was the latest guest on AEW Unrestricted with Aubrey Edwards and Tony Schiavone to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked where the idea to wrestle in jeans instead of wrestling gear came from, the former Big Cass gave credit to Chris Jericho for the idea.
“Yeah, that was Jericho’s idea a long time ago. I talked to Chris; it had to be 2019. He said, ‘Man, everything you did in WWE the look, scrap it.’ He said, ‘You got to do something brand new.’ And I said, ‘Like what?’ And he was like, ‘Something brand new. I don’t know what, but everything needs change.’
“I had always thought about wearing jeans and Timberland boots. I’d mentioned that to him, and he said, ‘We’ll see. See if it works out right. But that’s definitely different.’ I don’t know. I really enjoyed wearing that, and I felt more confident wearing. I felt more like myself again, being authentic.
“Wearing trunks and those high boots like it’s not me. For me, it just didn’t feel right, so wearing jeans and Timbs felt right. That kind of started with Jericho kind of telling me to switch things up, and then the jeans and the Timbs; it felt organic to me. I was like; this is it. This feels right.”
