John Morrison Never Discussed Anything But One-Off Appearances With Tony Khan, Open To AEW Return

John Morrison didn’t see his WWE release coming until he thought about the direction his character was taking at the time.

Major League Wrestling’s John Morrison was a recent guest on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his WWE release, Morrison said he didn’t believe he was getting released at first until it dawned on him that his character had been changed and altered so many times to the point where it didn’t make sense anymore.

“For some reason, I feel like I had a good vibe in my head of where I stood, and I didn’t really think I was getting released until the end,” John Morrison said. “When I realized like I was trying to do a character that had been convoluted. And kind of like tweaked and tweaked and tweaked until it kind of became impossible. And then I started thinking like, I wouldn’t be surprised if I get released, and then it happened.”

John Morrison worked three matches with All Elite Wrestling last year as Johnny Elite. When asked why he didn’t do more, Morrison joked that the roster got scared, but in reality, he never spoke to Tony Khan about doing anything beyond one-offs. However, he’s open to doing more in the future if the opportunity presents itself.

“I think that the roster got scared,” John Morrison joked. “No. You know, I don’t know. I never discussed with Tony [Khan] anything more than one-offs. I was open and am open. I think that roster is just jam-packed with talent. And you never know in wrestling what could happen.”
