Charlotte Flair wants to tie her father’s famous record, and she has her sights set on new heights.
For years, Ric Flair held the record for most world title wins with sixteen. John Cena later tied the record when he beat AJ Styles to win the WWE Championship at WWE Royal Rumble 2017. Meanwhile, throughout her career, Charlotte has won many titles. When she returned to WWE on the December 30 episode of WWE SmackDown and defeated Ronda Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship, she won her fourteenth title.
During an appearance on The TODAY Show, Charlotte was asked whether she has her sights set on surpassing the world title record. She made it clear that earlier in her career, she didn’t necessarily want to. But now that she’s close, Charlotte would like to have that record, as she believes the significance would be huge.
“Earlier in my career, no,” Charlotte said. “But now that I’m so close, and to be the person to hold the most championships in what is known as predominantly an all-boy’s club, I think that’s huge. It’ll be Charlotte’s dad if I do surpass [his record].
When asked to describe how WWE has changed for the women wrestlers, Flair pointed out that she is a 14-time champion, and she has main-evented many shows, including WrestleMania. She stated that, as far as she’s concerned, there’s nothing the women can’t do that the men are doing.
“I mean, look, John Cena and my dad held sixteen championships. I’m the fourteen-time women’s champion. I’ve main-evented WrestleMania. I’ve main-evented pay-per-views, Raw, SmackDown. I don’t see anything that women can’t do that the men are doing. So I think that question is irrelevant now, if you ask me.”
In recent weeks, Charlotte has been feuding with Sonya Deville on WWE SmackDown.
