The Undertaker Recalls Chokeslamming Terry Funk Out Of His Shoes (Literally)

The Undertaker chokeslammed Mick Foley through the roof of Hell In A Cell, but it’s another chokeslam during that match that has sneakerheads talking.

During his appearance on Complex’s Sneaker ShoppingThe Undertaker recalled an infamous moment from his Hell In A Cell match against Mankind. The moment in question took place after the infamous bump by Mick Foley off of the cage roof, and fans saw Undertaker chokeslam Terry Funk out of his sneakers while Foley was being evaluated. Complex’s Joe La Puma asked Undertaker about the moment and how it came as a result of needed to improv due to the pause in the match.

“Yeah, it’s just one of those things that happened. Obviously, everyone was really concerned for Mankind going through the [Cell roof]. He was probably inches away from not getting up from that, so that’s why that was all — that just happened. And what I was trying to do was, one, I don’t know what kind of shape Mick is in, right? But then again, you can’t just stand there and look around, so there’s a wrestler in the ring,” Undertaker explained. “Somebody’s gotta get it. Somebody’s gonna get chokeslammed and Terry Funk was the recipient. Up he went and there’s the shoe and it really, it’s funny that something in the stature of that match, but an iconic moment of Terry Funk losing a shoe to a choke slam.”

The Undertaker then joked around about how much black he wears. He said he has tried to branch out despite committing some big crimes against fashion.

“I’m a fashion faux-pas waiting to happen. [laughs] I was — I’ll tell you a funny story. I was on vacation with my buddy, because I do wear a lot of black, so I have a lot of black socks too. So I had black socks on with the white shoes and he called me out. We were at dinner or something and I had my foot stretched out, we were in the Bahamas,” he noted, “and he goes, ‘I like the white look you’re trying to go with there, but you need to go with the white socks too.’ And I was like, ‘Ahh… OK.’”
