Shelton Benjamin comments on his 20-year anniversary with WWE.
Benjamin signed with WWE in 2000, and after he spent some time in developmental at Ohio Valley Wrestling, he arrived on SmackDown in 2002; he appeared alongside Charlie Haas as Kurt Angle’s new stablemates in Team Angle. Since then, Benjamin has had a lengthy career with WWE across two stints; he has won the Intercontinental Championship, the United States Championship, and the Tag Team Championship, among other accolades. He continues to compete on WWE RAW; he and Cedric Alexander lost to the Street Profits on the January 16 episode.
Speaking on the January 18 episode of WWE’s The Bump, Benjamin shared his thoughts on the milestone. He made it clear that he’s thankful for the opportunities he’s had, and he’s grateful that he’s still with WWE. The veteran also expressed his excitement about the future.
“I gotta be honest, it feels like yesterday. I know that sounds cliche, but it really does feel like I just stepped in the door,” Benjamin said. “I remember I was one of the youngest guys in the locker room. Now, I’m one of the older guys. I didn’t expect that. I feel good. I feel nothing but blessed to have lasted so long and to still be with WWE, and for all the people I work with, I just say thank you to WWE, the WWE Universe, my family for putting up with all of the missing occasions, and I’m just looking forward to seeing what’s next.”
Outside of WWE, Benjamin is also a two-time ROH World Tag Team Champion.
