Maria Kanellis-Bennett: AEW Is More Than Capable Of An All-Women’s Show, But It’s About Bandwidth

Some fans might not want to take the same approach, but Maria Kanellis-Bennett is looking at things from a business perspective.

Steve Fall of WrestlingNews.co recently spoke with Maria Kanellis-Bennett about her Women’s Wrestling Army promotion and the possibility that AEW could do an all-women’s show. Specifically, Maria was asked if she’s offered Tony Khan any advice on getting started with such a project, but she said that she has a different focus in AEW right now.

“So I’m going to give the same answer that I’ve given everybody else about this — right now our end goal is tag team gold and to just really push The Kingdom and get them into the spot that we all want to be in,” Maria explained. “And that’s meaning main eventing as tag team champions.”

Outside of that scope, Maria believes AEW definitely has the talent to put on such a show, but wondered if it’s the right time and pointed out everything else AEW and ROH are doing now.

“But I think beyond that, is there a possibility because of the amount of talent that they have in AEW to have an all-women’s show? Of course,” she added. “I think they are more than capable of doing so, but I also think that you’ve got to look at it from a perspective of bandwidth. How much can you put out there right now on the AEW side when you’re trying to take care of all of AEW’s brands plus Ring Of Honor. So, a smart person isn’t going to necessarily add more things unless they already know what every company, every brand’s situation is going to be a month from now, six months from now. I know we don’t like to look at things from a business perspective as wrestling fans,” Kanellis explained, “there is that side. Is that the best use of time right now, or is it now that we’re getting several women’s matches on pay-per-views that are highly rated, is it better to build that until you get to a place where now you know what your profit is going to be?”
