The Icon Sting has had many memorable moments since joining All Elite Wrestling in 2020, but it appears his time in the facepaint is coming to an end.
All Elite Wrestling’s Sting recently sat down with Mike Piellucci of D Magazine to discuss a wide variety of subjects. During their discussion, The Icon revealed that his current contract expires sometime in 2023, but he wouldn’t say when.
While most fans have been very impressed with Sting’s work in All Elite Wrestling, he’s been his own worst critic. He talked openly about his two-on-one match against FTR that didn’t go how he wanted it to.
“There were probably three different occasions during the match that I thought, ‘OK, this is embarrassing,’” Sting said. “I am thoroughly embarrassed. I will be reading online all these fans saying, ‘Yeah, it’s time for him to hang it up. Time caught up to him. He’s done.’”
But luckily, that wasn’t the case at all. Sting’s work continues to marvel wrestling fans of all ages, and surely most of them will be disappointed when The Icon finally hangs up the boot for good. The WCW legend just hopes he can continue to give fans great memories before he walks away on his terms.
“Whatever I do, I want wrestling fans to say, ‘That was incredible,’” Sting said. “I don’t want them to walk away going, ‘That was embarrassing.’ I just want it to be a great memory and then to just finally, once and for all, say, ‘Adios.’”
