Renee Paquette On Mercedes Monè: I Really Applaud The Balls Of This Woman

Renee Paquette has nothing but respect for what Mercedes Monè is doing with her career right now outside of WWE.

The New Japan Pro-Wrestling debut of Mercedes Monè was discussed on the latest episode of The Sessions with Renee Paquette. While discussing the big move for the former WWE Superstar, Paquette spoke about how much Mercedes cares about professional wrestling and how much guts it took to walk away from her former company to try something new.

“I would like to chime in on Mercedes for a second,” Renee Paquette began. “For me, having worked with her from such an early time, met her at NXT, watched her rise through WWE, watched those ups and those downs, those times it’s kind of stepping out after WrestleMania after losing the tag titles, having that moment kind of leaving for a little while spending some time in Japan I believe she spent some time in Mexico to see what she’s done now for you know, whatever exactly happened on her and Trinity walking out from WWE.

“I really applaud the balls of this woman to I don’t want to say not give a shit. It’s not giving a shit. It’s actually giving a ton of shits. She cares so much about what she does. She cares so much about women’s professional wrestling, and it’s not easy. I know a lot of people if you want to watch from the outside and like yeah, you know what’s good, leave that company, go do whatever it’s not f**king easy to walk away from making a good amount of money. I have no idea where their contract was. She’s making a lot of money. There’s not a lot of opportunities in the world to do what she does as a professional wrestler, make a good income still professionally be satisfied with what she’s doing.

“And for her to put one of those things ahead of the other and go no, I’m not satisfied with what I’m doing. This isn’t right. This isn’t sitting right with me. I want to go out and pursue these other things. And to just have the guts to do that and not knowing you don’t have your hand on that other branch. You don’t know what that looks like. I don’t know if she thought maybe I’ll eventually go to AEW. I mean, I’m sure she always knew she wanted to go to Japan. I think that must have always been somewhere that you wanted to land, whether it’s doing something in STARDOM, showing up doing something in New Japan doing something at Wrestle Kingdom.

“Obviously, for her to not really know what that’s going to be and have that time again, going back to what we’re talking about. At the beginning of this. What do you do in that uncomfortable time? Where do I go? What am I going to do? Am I going to go do more television shows? Am I going to go do some movies? What am I going to do for her to kind of take that time and listen? I would love to pick her brain and have her on here. I have floated the request her way to have her on to know what that’s like to kind of sit in that downtime and not know where you’re going to go and to block out that noise.

“I can’t even imagine how many people, whether it’s people on social media, it’s people she knows, its friends, its co-workers with peers, kind of trying to get in her head to figure out what she’s going to do. How can you walk away from making all this money? You have all these opportunities. She was always a very much so featured player on WWE television. She had a great career. She was never going to not work or, you know, be sidelined entirely.

“So anyways, I just think it’s really f**king cool to see someone care so much about what they do and receive flack for that for whatever reason and to stick to your guns and go out and do that and then show up and have that big moment. And yeah, it’s the beginning for her. It’s the beginning of going to a new company and, you know, coming out there and whether it’s a promo or the physicality that happened during that moment.

“It’s the beginning of something new, and you’re landing on your feet again and figuring out who you are. Who is Mercedes Monè? How is she different from Sasha Banks? How are you going to kind of navigate these new waters and knowing how creative she is? I mean, the time she spends in the ring, she’s not someone that doesn’t want to go to work. She doesn’t want to not work. She’s a chick that wants to be there and wants to put in the work and like change what women’s wrestling is. So hats off to her for f**king doing the damn thing and having her friends by her side that understand her vision, that know what she wants to do and then executing it very cool.”

When this week’s AEW Dynamite in Los Angeles was brought up regarding the rumors that Mercedes Monè might appear, Paquette teased that she thinks something big will go down on Wednesday night.

“Oh, I know, right. There’s a lot of things swirling around. What a time,” Renee Paquette teased. “What a cool time. I’m actually very, very excited. AEW, yeah, we’re out at The Forum this week in Los Angeles. Plenty of things that are going to be happening there. So yeah, I cannot wait to see what’s gonna happen. I actually really do think that women’s tag match. I think a lot of people are going to have eyes on that to see exactly what we’re going to get.”
