Edge has appeared periodically on WWE programming in 2022, and a new report shines some light on his status.
The WWE Hall of Famer has been absent for stretches throughout the year. He missed some time after Finn Balor and The Judgment Day turned on him in June, but “The Rated-R Superstar” returned at SummerSlam. He then competed on the August 22 episode of RAW in Toronto, WWE Clash at the Castle, the September 12 episode of RAW, and WWE Extreme Rules. He hasn’t been seen since he lost to Balor in an I Quit” Match at the premium live event in October.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that, per WWE sources, Edge is working on a deal with limited dates, which is why he hasn’t had a consistent presence on WWE TV. The vignettes ahead of his return this summer were viewed as a way to “buy some weeks” and give the company time to build more meaningful matches later on.
A previous report in 2020 noted that Edge was on a three-year contract with 25 appearances and 5 matches per year, but Edge had 10 matches in 2021. He has wrestled six times so far in 2022. The terms of his deal remain unclear; if the previous length was correct, that time would be up soon, but the specific amount of time has yet to be confirmed. Sapp also noted that it’s possible Edge’s contract was frozen due to injury, but that has not been confirmed either.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
