Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, comments on the status of Black Adam.
The former WWE megastar worked for 15 years to make the film about the DC character a reality, and it finally hit theaters in October. The movie was somewhat expected to be a major building block of the DC Universe going forward, as it brought Henry Cavill’s Superman back into the mix. However, new co-CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran are reshaping the cinematic universe, and Gunn recently announced that Cavill won’t be in the upcoming Superman movie. This development called the status of Black Adam into question.
In a tweet on December 20, Johnson issued a statement in which he announced that Black Adam will not be in the first chapter of the new DC Universe, but DC and Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions will explore the best ways to utilize the character going forward.
The statement is as follows:
My passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe.
James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks Productions have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.
James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG. You guys know me, and I have very thick skin – and you can always count on me to be direct with my words. X These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens.
After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I’m very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide. I will always look back on the fan reaction to Black Adam with tremendous gratitude, humility and love.
We did great.
To my very passionate and vocal Black Adam/Super Hero genres fans – I love you, THANK YOU, and I will ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOU and do my best to deliver and entertain you.
What a helluva month- now we all need some Teremana!
Have a productive week and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you and your families.

Gunn responded to The Rock’s tweet and stated that he’s excited to see what Johnson and Seven Bucks Productions do next. He noted that he can’t wait to collaborate with them soon.
Meanwhile, fans continue to speculate about The Rock potentially returning to WWE and facing Roman Reigns as WrestleMania looms large on the horizon.
