Apollo Crews Reveals What Helped Him Find His True Voice In WWE

It took him some time, but Apollo Crews believes he’s finally been able to find his true voice on the microphone.

WWE NXT Superstar Apollo Crews was a recent guest on Out of Character with Ryan Satin to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the stark contrast between the two characters he’s recently portrayed on WWE television, Crews credited the Nigerian Prince character for helping him find his authentic voice with his promos.

“It’s funny how that works. And I feel like, from what I understand, I feel like when you’re playing a character on TV, you’re either going to be so far detached from that character or it’s going to be something that’s so close to you,” Apollo Crews said. “And I felt like I was able to find something within that that was very close, very relatable.

“And I think it’s just because I was like, okay, you know what, at the end of the day, what I’m doing here is I’m kind of just doing what I did with my friends growing up, just in front of millions of people or whatnot. But it took some getting used to, and once I found that comfort, it actually helped me when I realized after the fact after I did that character, and I started doing some promos in my normal accent, I realized that it actually helped me find my voice and I learned that I wasn’t putting on before the doing the accent I’d always kind of put on like this deeper voice that really wasn’t mine.

“And I tried to sound a certain way that I thought might be cool or that I thought it was what it needed to be, but it kind of helped me find my voice and helped me understand that I just need to talk like myself, I don’t need to put on another voice like I don’t need to make my voice deeper or try to be something that I’m not so it kind of in a weird way, it helped me become a better performer and kind of find my voice and kind of figure out who I am as a performer.”
