Matt Hardy Would’ve Had Larger Say In Creative, ‘Broken’ World Title Run If He Stayed With IMPACT Wrestling

Matt Hardy could have had a larger influence in IMPACT Wrestling if he stayed with the company.

During a recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt spoke about having an expanded role if he stayed with IMPACT Wrestling rather than leaving for WWE. Matt said he wasn’t going to be head of creative or anything drastic but he would have had a bigger presence in the creative process.

“I wasn’t going to be like technically the head of creative I was going to have a much more impactful role when it came to creative I was going to have a much bigger say. I was gonna have a lot more input in what was going on,” Matt Hardy said. “And if we would have continued the path that we were doing some of the stuff we were talking about doing with Broken Matt, whenever we eventually decided who we would have dropped the TNA Tag Team Titles, we left with the titles in theory.

“If we would have stayed, if we would have re-signed with TNA, and we would have finally chose a team, we would have dropped the titles to them, whoever it may have been. There was a point where they were already talking about me maybe even having another World Title run doing it as Broken Matt, and if I would have ended up winning the World Title, which was talked about, I said, I don’t think I should have long I don’t think Broken Matt is a character that really needs titles.

“I don’t think it does a lot. And the guy I was saying then who’s getting really hot, who I wanted to like try and make sure like if I win the title, let’s make it a big deal. Do a couple of Hardy Compound things three or four weeks later; I need to drop it, and I wanted to drop it to Eli Drake. He was the guy that I picked. I really liked what he was doing. And I thought him beating a Broken Matt would have been a big deal. And once again, Broken Matt doesn’t need a World Heavyweight Title. He’s just entertaining f**ker on his own. He was at that time.”

Matt and Jeff Hardy ultimately left IMPACT and returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33, receiving one of the loudest ovations ever. Matt left WWE in March 2020 and he joined AEW a short time later. Jeff joined his brother in AEW in March 2022.
