Sasha Banks’ WWE Exit Was Negotiated This Summer, More Details On New Japan Deal

It appears the reports of Sasha Banks getting out of her WWE contract over the summer were accurate.

Back in June, it was reported by Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. that Sasha Banks had been granted her release from the company.

At the time, there was no confirmation on WWE’s end that this information was accurate. But now we have the definitive answer.

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), Banks was, in fact, granted her WWE release over the summer, but it included a clause that wouldn’t allow her to appear in any wrestling-related events until January 1, 2023.

Sapp also confirms that Banks deal with New Japan Pro-Wrestling “is a go” and that the two sides came to terms on the last week of November. The Boss is scheduled to make an appearance at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.

As far as All Elite Wrestling goes, nothing has been confirmed, but many signs currently point to her being Saraya’s mystery partner on the January 11 episode of AEW Dynamite in Los Angeles.

Will we see Mercedes Varnado in All Elite Wrestling next month? We’ll find out soon enough.
