Report: Update On NXT Talent Competing At WWE Main Event Tapings

WWE NXT talent has been frequently appearing on WWE Main Event over the past few months, and a new report shines some light on the reasoning.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select  reports that Cameron Grimes was viewed as a natural fit for the main roster by several members of the WWE staff, as he has been working on television for the past several years. His familiarity with producer Shane Helms was also cited as a factor.

Sapp went on to cite an NXT source, talent competing in dark matches or on WWE Main Event is viewed as a way for WWE higher-ups to gauge how the individuals would connect with the main roster audience. It was noted that NXT shows mostly have the same few hundred fans in attendance, whereas there’s more variety with crowds for RAW and SmackDown tapings.

In the report, Sapp also noted that, per sources, there will be a more steady, albeit slow, flow of NXT talent being brought up to the main roster moving forward, and there likely won’t be such a lengthy evaluation period for NXT talent. He made it clear that sources emphasized that talent being utilized on Main Event is not indicative of a potential main roster call-up; instead, the company is trying to evaluate the talent’s performance on the road.
