Kenny Omega: The Elite And Death Triangle Want To Show What Trios Wrestling Can Be

Kenny Omega discusses the importance of the Best of Seven Series that is underway in All Elite Wrestling.

Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) returned at AEW Full Gear after they missed a number of weeks following “Bawl Out”, their reported fight with CM Punk. At the pay-per-view, Omega and The Young Bucks unsuccessfully challenged Death Triangle (PAC, Penta Oscuro, and Rey Fenix) for the AEW World Trios Championship. AEW then announced that the two teams would compete in a Best of Seven Series. Death Triangle scored a second consecutive win on the November 23 episode of AEW Dynamite.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Omega shared his thoughts on the series and emphasized that, given the creative flexibility of the individuals involved, each bout could potentially look unique. He noted that they can all work different styles, and the series gives them the chance to showcase their craft. He also made it clear that fans will know Death Triangle by the competition is complete.

“We are six individuals with a unique vision on professional wrestling,” says Omega. “Our minds are never closed to one idea or another, so the possibility exists for every match to look unique. The Lucha Brothers are known for lucha libre, but Penta and Fénix aren’t limited to one style. Pac is the same–he came through the UK indies, then moved onto Dragongate in Japan, which is a totally different style, and it includes lucha libre. He wrestled in WWE, which is sports entertainment, and now AEW, which is a hybrid alternative sports entertainment brand.

“Death Triangle has such a wide range, and this is a platform, in a potential seven matches, that’s a lot of matches to show your craft to a lot of people. If people don’t know Death Triangle, they’re going to by the end of this series.”

The former AEW World Champion emphasized that performing in the series is an effort to show the world what trios wrestling can be, and that it has a place in the wrestling world. He admitted that wrestling in the intense matches for several weeks is a daunting task, but it’s an important opportunity.

“We take a lot of pride in showing what trios wrestling can be,” Omega said. “It could be a daunting task to have these incredibly challenging matches every week, but it’s really a chance for us to show that trios wrestling has a place. That’s our goal–to show what wrestling can be.”

The series will continue on the November 30 episode of AEW Dynamite; check out the updated card here.
