Joe Hendry Had A ‘Mandela Effect’ Moment After Digital Media Title Win

Joe Hendry had to take a moment and let everything sink in.

During a recent interview with Darren Paltrowitz for the Paltrocast, Joe Hendry spoke about having a moment of euphoria after he won the IMPACT Wrestling Digitial Media Championship in Las Vegas. Hendry said he went for a walk after the match and had a surreal feeling because he couldn’t believe things were going in his favor the way that they did.

“I don’t know what happened. I didn’t question it. I genuinely had a moment on the second set of tapings, where the show was still going on, I just won the belt because me and Brian Myers were on first. And I thought, ‘I just need to take a walk for five minutes and just register what’s happened,’ and no one notices me taking five minutes to walk out because the fans are all watching the show, they’re preoccupied. But I remember just walking through Sam’s Town and I’ve got my order down at Dunkin Donuts you know just a black coffee, and the cleanest you can eat Dunkin Donuts, which isn’t super clean. So I’m walking in there, and I’m going, ‘What’s going on? What is going on? Something’s up.’ It just felt so weird to me. You know that whole, like, Mandela Effect, where you just feel like you’ve accidentally drifted into like a parallel universe or something like that?

“I’m walking through the lobby. And I was so kind of like jet lagged as well. And I was walking through the lobby, and I had this moment where I went ‘Oh, I’ve died. That’s what it is, I’ve died. Of course that went as well.’ That’s how not used to being booked well I am, I actually thought I may have died and was living at a simulation. But it turns out, you know, this has actually happened. But long story short, I’d see it as a huge responsibility to be the champion. And I know I have to just constantly up my game every week, and that’s why I love the fact that…look, Tommy Dreamer is on me, when I’m at tapings he’s there going like ‘Here’s what you need to work on. Here’s this.’ I mean, and that’s what I need. That’s what I want, and that tells me that management are investing the time in me, so I’m going to show them the respect by going ‘how far can I take this.’”

Hendry said that he loves that IMPACT’s roster all supports each other and gets a real family vibe from the locker room.

“I’m of the opinion that — I take the Chris Jericho methodology, which when he says if you’re there, it’s the place to be, so guess what? IMPACT Wrestling is the place to be, that’s genuinely my dream company, that’s where I want to be. So yes, I’m very excited about the personal success that I’m having. But now I’ve got a chip on my shoulder to play my part and be a cog in that machine, and help IMPACT along with the rest of the roster. Everybody put them together to get this to continue to grow the company because I think the product that we’ve got, I’ve said it before, I think we’ve got the best wrestling TV show right now.”
