Crazzy Steve will tell his story one day.
During a recent interview with WrestleZone, Crazzy Steve spoke about the separation of his personal life and on-screen character. In real-life, Steve has been open about the fact that he is legally blind, but it’s not something that’s often shared on-air for his work in IMPACT Wrestling.
Asked if he feels like there’s a balance in sharing his story without conflicting with the character work he does with Decay, Steve said he believes his story will be told one day.
“These aren’t my words, these are Tommy Dreamer’s words, these are Luke Gallows’ words, Eric Young’s words—the fact that my story has not been told on professional wrestling television is insane. Just based off the fact that yes, I’m legally blind, and again, that is news to some people because it’s not something that I advertised when I first started wrestling,” Steve explained. “I wanted to be known as a professional wrestler. The fact that I can’t see, it comes with the territory, but that’s not what I wanted the focus to be on. So I never really put it out there for people. If you knew, you knew, and if you didn’t, you didn’t.
“And then it wasn’t until recently where I was able to—where I was comfortable enough and felt like I had carved my niche in pro wrestling to the point where I can have no problem advertising it now. Because I have a following, and because I have an audience that doesn’t see me as just that, they see me as a wrestler first, and then the eyesight thing comes second. It’s interesting, yes, for sure, but it’s not who I am as a person or a performer.”
Crazzy Steve went on to note that he wants to tell his story, noting how pro wrestling loves grounding itself in reality when possible. How that story is told remains to be seen, but he believes it’s something that would resonate with people.
“My story definitely deserves to be told, and it’s made for professional wrestling, especially nowadays. Professional wrestling loves to take real-life stories and show you the grind and what it took to get there. Because it’s real. People can relate to that. I would love to tell the story that goes beyond it, that goes beyond the eyesight stuff. I would love to tell it. I don’t know how to do that yet, and it’s not like the people that I work for aren’t aware. Like they know, everybody knows. I don’t know where the opportunity comes, or when it comes, or how it even comes out,” he explained, “whether it’s a documentary or some other form of media that I put out there. I would like to get it out there at some point within my career.”
